Eczema can be frustrating and irritating sometimes, leaving your skin red, itchy, and inflamed. Conventional treatments provide temporary relief while Ayurveda gives a natural approach to the treatment of skin conditions. An Ayurveda clinic in Dubai will provide you with personalized remedies that target the root cause, balance your body, and restore your skin's health in all its beauty- naturally. Learn more in the blog ‘Ayurvedic Solutions for Eczema: Healing Skin Naturally’.

What is Eczema?

Before explaining all Ayurvedic treatments for eczema, you must know what eczema is and how it affects the skin. Eczema is a state of skin that has developed inflamed, red, and itchy skin. It can be caused by one or more of the following: stress, allergens, irritants, or environmental factors such as temperature or humidity change. It presents itself at allergic levels, with flaky patches of skin ranging from slight irritations to severe flare-ups that can lead to cracked, dry, and painful skin.

Eczema is considered persistent in nature and can be treated effectively if given proper treatment. This is wherein Ayurveda has its own treatments to heal eczema by treating the body's imbalance in inducing eczema-related symptoms.

Ayurvedic Remedies for Eczema

Ayurveda looks at eczema from a holistic perspective. Instead of addressing merely the symptoms, Ayurvedic remedies notably target the underlying imbalance of the body that might be causing or aggravating the condition. Three main forces that control the general health of the human body refer to Vata, Pitta, and Kapha; with any imbalance in these forces, skin disorders like eczema begin to develop.

In the case of eczema, Ayurveda generally associates the condition with an imbalance in the Pitta dosha. This dosha governs the body's metabolic and inflammatory processes, so when it’s out of balance, it can lead to inflammation in the skin and other bodily systems. By restoring balance to the Pitta dosha, Ayurveda seeks to reduce the inflammation, itching, and irritation associated with eczema.

With a clear understanding of an Ayurvedic approach now, let's look for some natural remedies for treating symptoms of eczema.

1. Herbal Remedies for Eczema

Neem

Neem has a wide spectrum of uses in Ayurveda for skin ailments, which is why it is a favorite remedy. Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antifungal properties make it most effective in treating eczema. Neem has calming effects that diminish itching and thus reduce infection risk from scratching.

How to Use Neem:

  • Apply neem oil externally to the affected areas in order to soothe the area and decrease irritation and redness.
  • The leaves can be boiled in water, and the solution can then be diluted and used as a rinse for the skin bath to relieve itching and inflammation.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has never ceased being popular within Ayurvedic skincare due to its cooling, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing properties. It helps to relieve irritated skin and promotes healing. It is a natural, gentle treatment for eczema.

Ways of Using Aloe Vera:

  • Put fresh gel directly from the plant onto the affected area for immediate relief.
  • Creams and lotions will contain aloe vera, free from harsh chemicals, a soft moisturizing alternative.

Turmeric

Turmeric, otherwise known as "nature's antibiotic," possesses anti-inflammatory and antioxidant medicinal properties that can aid in the healing of eczema. It lessens swelling, reduces redness and itching, and encourages healing on the skin.

Ways of Using Turmeric:

  • Mix turmeric powder with water or coconut oil to create a paste and apply to the affected skin.
  • Warm turmeric milk, commonly called "golden milk," is an excellent cure.

2. Oils for Eczema Treatment

In Ayurveda, the oil therapies are traditionally intended to nourish the skin on the internal and external planes while balancing the doshas and providing a therapeutic role in different skin ailments. The oils penetrate the skin and nourish it, modulate inflammation, and accelerate healing.

Coconut Oil

Amongst the best oils for dry, itchy skin is coconut oil. Filled with medium-chain fatty acids, it replenishes lost moisture in the skin and forms a barrier against further irritation. Antibacterial and antifungal activities of the coconut oil may bring relief from infections due to scratching.

How to Use Coconut Oil:

  • Apply virgin coconut oil directly onto the affected area before bedtime for maximum moisture and relief.
  • Alternatively, mix coconut oil with a few drops of essential oils such as lavender or chamomile for even greater soothing effects.

Sesame Oil

Sesame oil is another very popular product used in Ayurveda. It is warming and nourishing, therefore it is beneficial to balance out Vata dosha and Pitta dosha. Sesame oil will calm any irritation of the skin, keep it moisturized, and help heal inflammation.

How to Use Sesame Oil:

  • Gently massage after a warm bath all over the body for moisture.
  • The best results can be had by giving a regular oil massage or "Abhyanga" therapy involving sesame oil.

3. Dietary Changes for Eczema Management.

According to Ayurveda, everything that goes into your mouth is one of the responsible agents that keep your doshas in balance and the skin healthy. When balanced against Pitta, such an eating pattern can prevent symptoms that could escalate into an outbreak of eczema.

Cooling Foods to Balance Pitta

Pitta is associated with heat, and eating foods that are cooling in nature can help calm excess heat and inflammation in the body. Foods like cucumber, coconut, leafy greens, and dairy products like milk and ghee are great for soothing Pitta.

Foods to Include:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Whole grains like quinoa and rice
  • Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids

Foods to Avoid:

Certain foods can aggravate Pitta and contribute to inflammation. Spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol, and fried foods should be avoided as they can trigger eczema flare-ups.

  • Spicy dishes
  • Citrus fruits
  • Processed foods

4. Ayurvedic Lifestyle Practices for Healthy Skin

Eczema can be prevented and treated effectively through a proper lifestyle approach advocated by Ayurveda. A few convincing changes can contribute much towards the well-being of the skin.

Detoxification

Ayurvedic procedures, such as Panchakarma detoxification processes, from a reputed Ayurvedic center in Dubai can help remove toxins from the body causing inflammation in the skin. Incorporate some cleansing practices into your everyday life-such as oil pulling and sipping herbal teas-which will facilitate the process of detox.

Sleep and Rest

Proper rest is vital for healing. On the other side, Ayurveda maintains that sufficient sleep is needed for repair and rejuvenation. Ideally, one should aim for 7-8 hours of restful sleep every night.
