Preventing diseases from affecting your day-to-day lives
Spondylosis

Spondylosis is a medical condition that commonly develops with age. The term refers to the gradual deterioration of the discs between the vertebral bodies. Spondylosis (not to be confused with spondylolisthesis) is a degenerative condition of the spine's joints, often known as spinal osteoarthritis. The spine's discs, joints, and ligaments are commonly affected by spondylosis. The discs lose their ability to protect the spinal bones, the ligaments weaken or thicken, and the bones might develop bony growths or spurs. The major causes of this degeneration are ageing and recurrent stresses to the spine, although it can also occur in younger persons who have had earlier trauma. Not everyone with spondylosis will experience symptoms (typically pain). Spondylosis, if severe, may put pressure on nerve roots, resulting in discomfort or tingling in the arms or legs.

Treatment in Ayurveda

Based on the location and based on the chronicity of the disease, Ayurvedic medicines and Ayurvedic panchakarma therapies are highly recommended for spondylitis.

  • The panchakarma therapies that are recommended are fermentation therapies and local fermentation therapies which are extremely effective in giving quick relief to the pain as well as the stiffness which is triggered by spondylitis.
  • Patrapindaswedh, various types of local pooling of oil like greeva basti and kati basti are very highly recommended to help patients recover from pain and stiffness faster.
  • We also recommend treatments that bruise the spine and help the nerves recover faster. They are a series of basti treatments.
  • Ayurvedic internal medicines are also given to patients who take panchakarma therapies. These medicines are given side by side along with specific dietary advice.
  • One-on-one therapeutic yoga session is recommended for spondylitis. Pranayama helps in improving blood circulation in that particular local area.
