Heat Rashes: Prevention and Treatment

Heat Rashes have been becoming a villain in the summer. More than the physical irritation causes, the mental state too gets affected by the continued itching and redness. Well, you may have reached here with the search for Ayurvedic treatment in Dubai for heat rashes. We are here with some simple remedies through the blog ‘Heat Rashes: Prevention and Treatment’.

Understanding Heat Rash

Heat rash or miliaria, which is caused by clogged sweat pores, is a skin condition that develops when sweat does not evaporate properly. The clogging up slouges off small itchy red bumps or blisters which may appear in the areas of the neck, back, chest, or thighs. This happens in the tropical and sub-tropical regions, or when you engage in intense physical activities that raise the sweating level. This disease can be quite uncomfortable and the patients sometimes describe a sensation of pins and needles or burning. However, heat rash rarely causes complications, but is annoying and it could result in the skin being infected if you scratch it too much.

A few aspects of having a heat rash are listed here. Sweating helps cool the body but it also causes dehydration and this makes it a primary cause of heatstroke during humid weather. When wearing clothes that are tight or heavy and do not give the skin a chance to breathe, sweat is among the chemicals that can get trapped within the clothes. This creates a comfortable environment for heat rashes. Furthermore, prolonged battles and the exhausting work that results in heavy perspiration could initiate heat stroke. The youngest children and the infants suffer severe rashes because their sweat glands do not develop properly. The way to ward off heat rash is by staying cool, ensuring the skin dries, and opting for loose-fitting and breathable garments.

5 Ways to Prevent Heat Rash

Here’s what you have been searching for!

  • Wear Loose Clothing

Choose loose, lightweight, and breathable fabrics like cotton to allow air circulation and prevent sweat from getting trapped against your skin. Tight clothing can irritate the skin and block sweat glands, leading to heat rash. Choose comfy t-shirts and airy dresses that let your skin breathe.

  • Take Cool Showers

Regular cool showers can help lower your body temperature and wash away sweat, reducing the risk of blocked pores. After showering, make sure your skin is completely dry before putting on clothes. This helps keep your skin fresh and less prone to irritation.

  • Practice Proper Skincare Routine

Keep your skin clean and dry by washing it regularly with gentle, non-comedogenic soap. We recommend you avoid using heavy creams that can clog pores. Applying talcum powder or cornstarch in areas prone to heat rash can help absorb excess moisture. This way, your skin stays smooth and free from sweat buildup.

  • Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help regulate your body temperature and maintain healthy skin. Staying hydrated aids in efficient sweat production and evaporation, reducing the risk of sweat gland blockage. Also, it keeps you feeling refreshed and energized all day long!

  • Avoid Excessive Heat and Humidity

Whenever possible, stay in air-conditioned or well-ventilated environments during hot weather. If you need to be outdoors, seek shade and take frequent breaks to cool down. Using fans and dehumidifiers can also help reduce humidity levels indoors. This creates a more comfortable environment for your skin and helps prevent overheating.

Ways to Treat Heat Rash at Home

Let’s deal with heat rashes at home with these simple steps before depending on clinical treatments like Panchakarma Treatment in Dubai.

  • Cool Your Skin

Use a cool and damp cloth or relax and have a cool bath to relieve the discomfort of irritated skin. Through this process, inflammation is calmed down leading to rapid relief from the itch and burning. The remaining time spent in cold surroundings will also aid in lowering your overall body heat thus controlling the heat rash.

  • Keep Dry

Squeeze the water from your skin with a clean and soft towel, when you exercise, or shower. Don't rub since it will only agitate your sensitive skin. Prevention of sweat accumulation in the pores is vital as it is a must-step for the rash to be treated. This can be done by keeping your skin dry. Keep aside soft and absorbent towels to prevent unexpected aggravation.

  • Stay in a Cool Environment

Use fans or air conditioning to maintain a cool environment and thereby reduce sweating. Cooler surroundings significantly lower your body temperature, consequently decreasing the amount of sweat your body is producing. This action, in turn, reduces the likelihood of an increase in your heat rash.

  • Apply Calamine Lotion

Calamine lotion can help relieve itching and irritation caused by heat rash. It has a cooling effect that soothes the skin and reduces discomfort. Apply a thin layer to the affected area as needed, and allow it to dry for optimal relief.

  • Sandalwood Paste

Sandalwood is widely known in Ayurveda for its cooling and soothing properties. To make a sandalwood paste, mix sandalwood powder with a little water or rose water to form a smooth paste. Apply this sandalwood paste to the affected areas and leave it on until it dries completely. Then, rinse off with cool water. Sandalwood helps reduce inflammation, relieves itching, and cools the skin.

  • Take Breaks from Activity

If you’re active, take frequent breaks to cool down and allow your skin to breathe. Overheating and excessive sweating can worsen heat rash, so giving your body time to cool off is important. Rest in a shaded or air-conditioned area during breaks.

  • Hydrate Well

Drink plenty of water to regulate your body temperature and reduce sweating. Staying hydrated helps your body cool down more effectively and reduces the likelihood of sweat-related skin issues. Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water a day, more if you are active or in a hot environment.

  • Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera is a powerful natural remedy for heat rash due to its anti-inflammatory and cooling effects. Extract fresh aloe vera gel from an aloe leaf and apply it directly to the rash. Allow it to sit for about 20 minutes before rinsing off with cool water. Aloe vera soothes irritated skin, helps to reduce redness, and promotes healing.
