About Januvasti

Januvasti or Janubasti is an Ayurvedic treatment in which the medicated oils are poured and pooled for a specific period in a cabin or compartment around the joints or knee joints using a dough made of black gram flour and water.

To state it simply, Januvasti is an oil-pooling Ayurvedic treatment done for knee pain caused due to various reasons. The oil to be used is selected based on the patient and the condition. The term Januvasti consists of two words: Janu and Vasti. Janu means knee joint and Basti/Vasti means to retain or hold something.

Vasti or Basti is the Ayurvedic term for the urinary bladder. The urinary bladder holds urine for a specific period until it is emptied. In a similar fashion, the dough prepared is kept on the client’s knees in a ring shape so that medicated oils can be poured into it, this is followed by a massage or abhyanga. This technique is done to strengthen the knee joints, and muscles, and to improvise the functions of your knee joint. It prevents the knee joints from further degenerative changes.
